History

Three friends, one sound — since 1978

Taxie began in 1978, when three friends — Woody Whittaker, Ronnie Arch, and Wayne Chatman — came together under the Cabfare Productions banner to write, record, and perform their own music. The lineup soon grew to include Charles Williams, Oneida James, and vocalist Carlita Durhan, the original guitarist for A Taste of Honey.

Along the way the band shared stages with Stevie Wonder, Dennis Edwards, and the Mary Jane Girls, while their compositions were recorded by Grammy winner Dianne Reeves, Tahj Mowry, Alfreda James, Greg Rose, and the group Infinite. Behind the boards, Taxie produced legendary drummer Ndugu Chancler and bassist Cornelius Mims.

With more than 100 songs and videos developed over the decades, Taxie's focus remains where it started: making music — and the story is far from over.
